About the Role:
The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Position as Supervisory Air Traffic Control Specialist (Terminal) to work at the 96 Operations Support Squadron, Eglin Radar Control Facility (OSAR) at Eglin Air Force Base.
In this position you will plan, organize and direct activities of civilian Air Traffic Control Specialists to comply with legal and regulatory requirements to meet customer needs. You will oversee complex air traffic operations, including the direction of aircraft in a multi-faceted airspace system that supports commercial, general aviation, and military traffic.
Manage special use airspace encompassing military operating areas, restricted zones, and controlled firing areas to support high-interest DOD and NATO operations. Coordinates diverse mission activities, ensures compliance with scheduling requirements, and resolves issues affecting airspace integrity. Oversees emergency actions, system outages, and NOTAM coordination, providing expert guidance to ensure uninterrupted service and mission success. Balances technical expertise, leadership, and operational efficiency to sustain safe and seamless air traffic operations across a dynamic and challenging environment.

Location: Valparaiso, FL (Eglin Air Force Base)
Typical 2025 salary range: $124,531 - $190,424 per year (includes locality)
Telework Information: Position not eligible for telework
Travel Requirements: Up to 25% travel possible
Direct Hire Authority: NO 6-MONTH WAIT! Recently retired and/or retiring from MILITARY service ARE eligible for immediate appointment for AFTC positions. The 180-day waiting period has been waived for AFTC to hire recently retired and/or retiring service members.
- Ability to effectively work independently and with a team.
- At least 10 years ATC radar controller experience is highly desired.
- At least 10 years of ATC experience and experience in the ATC career field within the last 3 years is highly desired.
- Previous Eglin Radar Control Facility experience in the last 10 years is highly desired.
Major Duties:
- Leads civilian Air traffic Control Specialists, ensuring the ERCF is in compliance with regulations and effective operations to meet organizational needs.
- Supervises personnel, manages performance, resolves issues, and ensures compliance with EEO principles and security directives.
- Represents the ERCF on airspace matters, develops relationships with stakeholders, and oversees special projects and mission-critical initiatives.
- Directs complex air traffic control operations, ensuring safe, orderly flow while maintaining facility certification requirements.
- Controls special use airspace for diverse DOD/NATO missions, resolving conflicts and ensuring safety in a high-demand environment.
- Operates communication equipment, provides emergency assistance, coordinates NOTAMs, and ensures safety during emergencies or equipment failures.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship.
- Obtain & maintain a Secret security clearance.
- This is a designated Drug Testing Position.
- Bachelors degree in Aerospace or Military Function is required. Masters degree is highly desired.
- Must possess current and valid FAA/ATC specialist certification and maintain same.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment flight physical.
- Must complete all training requirements within facility prescribed time limits to obtain and maintain a full facility rating in facility of assignment.
- This position is covered as an Air Traffic Controller under 5 USC 2109.
- This position is subject to the special retirement provisions for Air Traffic Controllers under CSRS and FERS (5 USC 3382, Involuntary Separation for Retirement; 5 USC 8335(a) and 8425(a), Mandatory Separation; 5 USC 8336(e) and 8412(e), Immediate Retirement; 5 USC 8339(e) and 8415(d), Computation of annuity.
- The incumbent must have the ability to meet and maintain on a continuing basis, the physical, mental, and medical standards for ATC duties as specified by the OPM qualification standard for GS-2152.
- The position may require the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions. Title Determination: Supervisory Grading Guide with DoD guidance, dated Sep 93; PCS for Air Traffic Control series, GS-2152, TS-31, dated Jun 78; PCS General Introduction, Background and Instruction, Section, G, I & J, Jan 90; and OPM Classification Decision for Air Traffic Control Specialist (Terminal), GS-2152 positions dated Sep 92.
