About the Role:
The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time SUPERVISORY SECURITY SPECIALIST (Operations Officer) (NH-0080-03) to work at the Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) in the Air Force Test Center (AFTC), at the 412th Security Forces Squadron Detachment 1, at Air Force Plant 42 at Edwards Air Force Base.
The purpose of this position is to execute Air Force Plant 42 Security Forces operations functions, to serve as the Security Forces Operations Officer exercising second-level supervisory and managerial authorities over the Operations Flight, providing planning, directing, organizing, and providing managerial control over Security Forces Operations employees assigned to 412th Security Forces Squadron, Detachment 1. To ensure successful protection for the diverse government and contractor functions at Air Force Plant 42. Leads joint Department of Air Forces officer and active-duty unit.

Location: Palmdale CA, (Edwards Air Force Base)
Typical 2025 salary range: $103,316 - $159,716 per year (includes locality)
Telework Information: Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and Office of Personnel Management (OPM) prescribed "Unscheduled Telework"
Travel Requirements: Up to 25% travel possible
Direct Hire Authority: NO 6-MONTH WAIT! Recently retired and/or retiring from MILITARY service ARE eligible for immediate appointment for AFTC positions. The 180-day waiting period has been waived for AFTC to hire recently retired and/or retiring service members.
- 5 years of experience in Military/Civilian Law Enforcement desired.
- Experience in formatting, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of Air Force policies and directives desired.
Major Duties:
- Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities at least 25% of the time.
- Manages, plans, administers, organizes, and oversees the activities of the Operations Flight, ensuring that physical security operations comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.
- Represents the flight with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.
- Provides advice and assistance to supervisors, managers, commanders and other personnel. Serves as a principal advisor to the commander on matters concerning integrated defense, force protection, vulnerability assessment and mitigation.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Obtain & maintain security clearance.
- This is a designated Drug Testing Position
- Department of Defense Physical Security Certification conferral is required within 2 years of the established employee EOD or initial assignment date to this position in accordance with DOD 3305.13-M, DOD Security Accreditation and Certification.
- Knowledge of incident and security management systems.
- Knowledge of security regulations, practices, principles, and procedures including force protection, integrated defense, anti-terrorism, police services, physical security, security forces weapons and use of force.
- Knowledge of police officer procedures and operating methods in order to plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the full range of security forces activities to include security of protection level resources, installation entry control, dispatch, emergency response operations and armed response.
- Knowledge of a wide range of security specialties, concepts, principles, criteria, requirements, technology and practices.
