The DG /AVI Specialist will be primarily responsible for delivering exceptional customer service and ensuring strict compliance with safety and security protocols. Core responsibilities including labeling and packaging hazardous materials and AVIs in accordance to transportation, distribution, and package handling regulations and policy. A DG and AVI specialist will ensure that each package and animal we transport complies with the Department of Transportation (DOT) and International Air Transportation Association (IATA). Job Responsibilities include:
- Complete thorough and accurate DG acceptance of all Dangerous Goods shipments accepted to be flown on all outbound aircraft and trucking segments.
- For completeness and correctness, Spot-check DG documentation, air waybills, checklists, NOTOC reports, and statistics.
- Work with management to ensure DG Quality is maintained by reporting sample shipment documentation via email to the DG Compliance manager monthly and reporting any documentation or process discrepancies immediately.
- Directly accept and assist acceptance staff in the processing of all Live Animal (AVI) paperwork for transportation (AWB, checklist, security of the kennel, proper labels).
- Make sure a pre-advice is sent and confirmed from the downline and/or destination station before acceptance.
- An understanding of the federal and state regulations governing the transportation of goods by ground and air within the United States, as well as international imports and exports, in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, regulations pertaining to hazardous materials, and the various modes of transportation per 49CFR, ICAO, and IATA.
- Determines the optimal methodology for transporting hazardous materials, reorganizes cargo, and appropriately designates labels; prepares dangerous goods for their designated shipment destination.
- Supports management in training employees on the acceptance, safe handling, and emergency response to dangerous goods and hazardous materials by documenting and reporting any training gaps.
- Facilitates the education of customers concerning regulations pertaining to hazardous materials.
Requirements:
- Candidates must possess a valid CAT 6 Dangerous Goods certification or demonstrate the ability to procure such certification within thirty days of accepting the position. Alternatively, candidates are required to attend the subsequent training class.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must possess a valid Driver's License.
- Must be able to push, pull or lift up to 70lbs.
- Must be able to obtain a valid airport I.D. badge.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be able to clearly understand and communicate in English when performing essential job functions.
- Must be able to pass all pre-employment screenings, background checks, drug screen, and airport/government security background checks.
- Be available to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
