Position Summary : As a Mechanical Engineer II, you will lead the design, testing, and development of metal cabinetry and casework for laboratory and K-12 educational environments. You will collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure that designs are efficient for production.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead the design and development of custom metal cabinetry for laboratory and educational environments, balancing aesthetics with functionality.
  • Perform detailed mechanical analysis, including load-bearing, durability, and ergonomic studies, ensuring designs meet regulatory and safety standards (e.g., ANSI / BIFMA, SEFA. UL, CSA).
  • Create precise 3D CAD models and detailed drawings for sheet metal parts and assemblies for production and sales support.
  • Work closely with the production team to refine designs for manufacturability and ensure efficient fabrication processes (e.g., CNC cutting, sheet metal bending, welding).
  • Evaluate materials and finishes to ensure they meet the specific durability, safety, and cleanliness standards required for K-12 and laboratory environments.
  • Lead prototype development, testing, and product validation, making iterative improvements based on feedback.
  • Coordinate with project managers, architects, and clients to customize designs according to client needs and building layouts.
  • Oversee technical documentation preparation, including design reviews, test reports, and installation guides.
  • Support introducing new products, ensuring a smooth transition from design to production.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in cabinetry, metal fabrication, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in CAD and FEA tools, with strong knowledge of sheet metal design and production processes.
  • Understanding of industry standards for laboratory and educational furniture design (e.g., SEFA, ADA, UL, CSA compliance).
  • Experience in prototype testing and product validation.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.

Work might entail significant time spent standing, exposure to extreme temperatures, enduring distracting / uncomfortable sounds and noise levels, and exposure to potentially hazardous conditions and equipment. Must occasionally lift and / or move up to 40 pounds. Employees may be required to climb stairs to access various areas of the building. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus. Overtime may be necessary as workload dictates. This may include weekdays, weekends, and / or holidays.

    Work Environments : The job requires calm and effective handling of high-stress situations. Employees may be subject to random drug and alcohol testing, pre-employment physicals, and background checks.
