THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1636000 and is part of the IL 182 AW, National Guard.

Qualifications:

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence:

  • The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.
  • The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees.
  • The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible.
  • The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership.
  • The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens.


Military Grades: Enlisted Only - Minimum rank of SrA. Maximum rank of TSgt.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training that has provided the ability to perform assembly and disassembly operations and make prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories in accordance with technical specifications, procedures, and requirements; and experience using hand and power tools common to the trade.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-10 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes experience or training performing standard, routine assembly and disassembly operations and making prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories; experience or training performing maintenance overhaul, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of aircraft engines, engine components, and powertrains for fixed and/or rotary wing aircraft; and experience determining maintenance needed from work orders, inspection reports, historical records, and diagnosis.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Responsibilities:

As a AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC (TITLE 32), WG-8602-10, you will maintain, troubleshoot, remove, repair, install, certify, test and perform operational checks on the turboprop engines, propellers, and associated propulsion system components.

Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:
  • Prepare for and participate in various types of readiness evaluations such as Operational Readiness Inspections, Inspector General and Unit Evaluation Inspections, mobility, and command support readiness inspections, mobility, and command support exercises.
  • Provide on-the-job training for assigned personnel.
  • Plan and conduct formal classes of instruction in techniques of repair and maintenance of aircraft engine, propeller, auxiliary power unit, and related equipment and in the use of diagrams, blueprints, wiring schematics and technical publications.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of training by observation and through written and oral examinations.
  • Maintain bench stock, parts, and equipment.
  • Assist the material control function in identifying part numbers and stock numbers for processing and controlling of repair cycle assets.
  • Remove, install, certify, repair, modify, overhaul, and install turboprop engines, reduction gear boxes, turbine modules, compressor modules, auxiliary power units, propellers and related propeller components as required.
  • Modify engines, propellers, auxiliary power units, and components in accordance with Time Compliance Technical Orders (TCTO) directives; remove and install engine quick change kits; prepare engines for installation and install engine and propeller assemblies on aircraft.
  • Perform operational checks of installed propellers, engines, auxiliary power units and sub-systems during aircraft maintenance ground runs in accordance with approved checklists.
  • Perform isochronal and special evaluations on engines, propellers and auxiliary power units.
  • Perform aircraft full power runs and complete engine and propeller efficiency checks.
  • Perform maintenance on all propulsion systems including troubleshooting and diagnosing defects, certifying, conducting bench checks, performing in-shop and on-equipment repairs and overhauls.
  • Troubleshoot propellers using electricand hydraulic test stands to check for proper operation and evidence of oil leakage.
