This ARCHITECT/ENGINEER (ACCELERATED HIRE) is located Civil Engineering Squadron at an Air National Guard Wing and is part of the CA 146 AW.
This position is an interdisciplinary position. The title of Architect, General Engineer, Civil Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineer and occupational series is assigned depending on the qualifications of the incumbent selected to fill the position.

Selectee may be non-competitively converted to permanent status if/when funding becomes available or position becomes unencumbered.
The primary purpose of the ARCHITECT/ENGINEER (ACCELERATED HIRE), GS-0801-12, is to provide supervisory (less than 25%) and technical assistance to the Base Architect/Engineer in overseeing and managing the engineering and construction requirements for the installation. Provides technical support to all assigned sections. Provides guidance to these sections on standard and code requirements.
- Plans work to be accomplished by the civil engineering team, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules. Coordinates work with civil engineering team based on organization priorities and consideration of difficulty and requirements of assignments such that the experience, training, and abilities of staff are effectively utilized to meet organization and customer needs.
- Prepares or directs the preparation of engineering and architectural drawings, scopes of work, specifications and independent cost estimates for the construction, modification and maintenance of a wide variety of military buildings, structures, pavements, grounds, and utilities systems. Reviews architectural drawings, sketches submittals, requests for information, and specifications for technical adequacy, constructability, maintainability, operability, and interpretation in terms of requirements for mission operations, facility usage, standards, regulations, manpower, supplies, and equipment. Conducts construction inspections to ensure compliance with engineering requirements.
- Responsible for the acquisition, construction, maintenance, repair, and operating of real property facilities, and provides related management, engineering, and other support work. Exercises authority in planning, programming, directing, controlling and coordinating architectural or engineering activities in accordance with base and National Guard policies and standards.
- Makes decisions in line with prior Air National Guard Base policy and planning, such as priority of new construction, acceptance of completed work, facility disposal, real estate acquisition, utilization, or disposal actions. Coordinates on plans, exchanges information, recommends policy or procedures and keeps apprised of new architecture and engineering developments. Determines operational trends and forecasts requirements. Determines and coordinates acquisition and use of money, manpower, equipment and material.
The position resides within the infrastructure and support functions of the state National Guard; the incumbent is not subject to mobilization, nor is the work described part of the military mission; and the incumbent does not perform a key advisory or essential administrative role that is inherently military. In addition, the position must meet one of the following: It does not have a comparable military function; the position is required in full-time (civilian) role when the organization, or similar military position, is mobilized to perform continuing post-mobilization functions; or the position requires a skill or competency that necessitates technical expertise or professional qualifications that cannot be readily found in the military structure of the state military force.
