Radar Software Engineer
ATEC is looking for a Computer Scientist to work with the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Airport Surveillance Radar Model 9 (ASR-9) terminal radar system. The ASR-9 is a non-cooperative (primary) surveillance radar system that provides aircraft position and weather information to automation systems for air traffic controllers in terminal airspace. We are seeking a skilled Software Engineer able to support the Development, Maintenance and Testing of Real-Time Embedded Software in support of the ASR-9 Radar System.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
Designing, developing, and debugging real-time embedded software.
Implementing software requirements and specifications in accordance with system architecture.
Performing unit testing and integration testing of embedded software modules.
Collaborating closely with hardware engineers to ensure software and hardware compatibility.
Participating in code reviews and providing constructive feedback to team members.
Developing and maintaining documentation related to software design, requirements, and testing.
Supporting system-level integration and validation activities.
Troubleshooting and resolving software issues identified during development or testing phases.
Keeping up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends related to embedded software development.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS :
Track preparation and delivery status of required deliverables.
Attend and may lead meetings, design reviews, working group and briefings.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES :
Proven experience in real-time embedded software development.
Proficiency in programming languages such as C / C for embedded systems.
Solid understanding of Linux real-time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded software development methodologies. Gapping the language between Linux Operating system software with external hardware IP networks.
Experience with software development tools (e.g., compilers, debuggers, version control systems).
Familiarity with hardware / software interface and debugging techniques.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to analyze and debug complex software issues.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
Preferred Qualifications :
Well versed in some of the following software platforms and devices : Wireshark, GCC Compiler, Cross Compiler Environment, Qt, BSD Sockets, Network Routing, git, Yocto, Bitbake, Linux Network Device Drivers, Python, Open Embedded, Netlink.
Experience with utilizing a Logic Analyzer to troubleshoot embedded computer systems.
Knowledge of communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet, HDLC, UDP, IP, ARP, etc) used in embedded systems.
EDUCATION / YEARS of EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Math, or a Bachelor?s degree in another technical field with a minimum of thirty (30) semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science and seven (7) years of related work experience in a computer science or math field
Master?s Degree in any field of study with a minimum of thirty (30) semester hours of either undergrad or grad study in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science and five (5) years related work experience in a computer science or math field
SECURITY REQUIREMENTS :
US Citizenship or documented proof of eligibility to work in the US
Applicants selected will be subject to a government investigation
Has been living in the US for at least the past 3 years
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
Located at the FAA William J. Hughes Technical Center
Occasional travel for installations and / or technical support if needed.
