As a Principal Controls System Engineer, you will design, develop, and test process control systems while utilizing advanced technologies such as Programmable Logic Controllers and Human Machine Interfaces. Your responsibilities also include programming industrial control systems, conducting consultations on manufacturing projects, and applying electrical engineering concepts to resolve complex problems. A Bachelor's degree in engineering along with several years of relevant experience is required for success in this role.

SUMMARY: Designs, develops, and tests process control system applications utilizing Programmable Logic Controllers, Human Machine Interfaces, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible for designing, developing, and testing of all hardware and software process control systems.
  • Programs industrial control systems.
  • May provide consultation on manufacturing and processing projects.
  • Analyze and reduce scrap increasing efficiencies.
  • Details drawings and coordinates building of prototype product and testing.
  • Responsible for writing and implementing required maintenance procedures, and performing actual maintenance as required.
  • Performs a variety of tasks utilizing electrical engineering concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Resolves problems related to assigned projects by working with vendor, customers, shop personnel, and others as necessary.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Requires Knowledge Typically Acquired Through

  • Completion of a Bachelors degree in engineering from a four year college or university, technical or vocational school,
  • Three to seven years related experience or training, and / or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and groups of employees.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Mn State Posting Requirements

SALARY RANGE: $100,000 - $175,000 (depends on level of experience I, II, or III)
