Director, Accounting

SUMMARY:

Responsible for the safeguarding and ethical accounting of all division assets in conformance with generally accepted accounting principles. Develops and manages division wide financial, accounting and information systems/technology performance in accordance with the division objectives.

Function includes - management and oversight of all financial statements (e.g. I/S, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statements), budgeting, financial planning and analysis, internal control oversight, financial reporting both internal and external, financial performance measurement, financial system implementation, and technical accounting support and guidance. Also, responsible for information systems/technology to assure accuracy and consistency of business processes from a systems perspective.

Functionally oversee the effectiveness of all the financial and accounting and business systems/IT personnel. May directly supervise Division Accounting; General Accounting, Budgeting, Planning and Analysis. Interfaces on accounting, compliance, and control issues with all levels of the platform management reporting to the Business Unit President with dotted line reporting to the CFO. The BU Controller will serve of the BU President SLT staff as well as the platform CFO’s group of BU Controllers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Continually reviews the accounting requirements of the business unit(s) and directs the development and installation and accuracy of appropriate systems.

Prepares all statements of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial data including income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flow. Analysis of financial results as compared to AOP and Forecast(s) on a monthly and quarterly basis.

Direct the financial performance measurements within the business unit, while ensuring financial performance reporting is accurate and timely meeting the needs of both the business unit and the platform.

Accountable for proper procedures, policies and controls being in place to maintain adequate internal controls and compliance. Also responsible for and serves as the primary point of contact for all external accounting audits and compliance.

Oversees the administration of all internal and external reporting with assurance that Generally Accepted Accounting Practices are in place. Respond to special financial requests and analysis and communicate potential problem areas. Conduct financial reviews/analysis on a periodic basis to assure proactive countermeasures are being addressed and/or as requested by the BU President or CFO.

Oversees the proper staffing of all accounting positions. Ensures technically qualified personnel are placed in all positions and has training and development programs available. The BU Controller should develop talent to assure any inefficiencies are addressed in a timely basis while also assuring succession planning to respond to growth and/or attrition. On an annual basis will participate in talent reviews to include succession planning – or as requested by the BU President or CFO.

Leads and directs the annual BU financial planning process to include but not limited to the Annual Operating Plan (AOP), 5-Year financial plans and strategic business development. The BU Controller will also be hands-on relative to various financial priorities to assure business objectives are met.

Manages and oversee annual physical inventory and cycle counting processes to assure accuracy of inventory and alignment with business systems.

Manages and oversee the business systems/IT function to assure both accuracy and efficiency of business processes.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or business.

CPA license is required while a graduate degree is preferred.

10 plus years of experience in finance, general and cost accounting, treasury/banking, audit, and compliance (SOX), information systems (ERP systems [ex: IFS, SAP, Oracle, Baan, Axiom] and Financial Reporting systems) with a high level of business acumen.

Ideally, the controller will have several years of practical experience in a highly engineering and manufacturing environment with a strong knowledge of operational performance methods.

A strong understanding and practitioner of lean principles including lean manufacturing and lean accounting is highly desired.

The ideal candidate would possess a strong track record while working in both public and private settings including private equity held businesses.
