Description of Responsibilities :

The Senior Group Benefits Specialist is responsible for the oversight and ongoing management of assigned client accounts typically in the 25-250 employee market. This position coordinates with the producers and team to facilitate the quoting of new and / or renewing employee benefits, ensuring the highest level of service is met and working with fully insured, level funded, TPA health plans, and other non-medical benefits. In addition, you will maintain the ongoing client relationship with vendor partners and work to proactively identify emerging trends.

At times this position will be interacting with clients to clarify information and potentially service issues however servicing accounts will not be their primary focus.

This position must be knowledgeable about carrier requirements and guidelines, be open to learning, and work within their team and agency.

As such, the Benefits Specialist requires strong skills in relationship building that ensures persistency of business and growth for the firm. This position works in conjunction with the Agent and other benefit specialists with the opportunity to manage other benefit specialists. The position is a visible representative and must act in a highly professional manner and demonstrate commitment to the mission and values of the company.

Job Duties :

  • Send RFPs to carriers, follow up and collect proposals from carriers, ensure accuracy of received proposals.
  • Analyze benefits and rates for all lines of coverage and work within existing Excel workbooks to prepare presentations for the agent with the selected best options to present to the group.
  • Communicate and follow up with clients regarding the renewal process.
  • Oversee client censuses & invoices with great detail to ensure accuracy .
  • Coordinate and schedule presentations and ensure all items are completed in accordance with existing systems and processes
  • Assist employees with basic service needs and be able to grow into more complex multi-step service issues
  • Communicate with Producer about potential or existing problems as needed
  • Foster strong and lasting relationships with carrier reps and client key contacts to ensure persistency of accounts
  • Ensure high levels of service delivery to client accounts including, but not limited to :

Provide the highest quality of customer service to all callers at all times, which includes :

Giving every effort to exceed the customer's expectations for service

  • Providing response to client calls and emails within 24 hours, with the goal to resolve problems within 1 business day where possible
  • Providing status updates to clients if unable to resolve an issue fully within 1 business day
  • Providing responses or problem resolution to all client requests regarding enrollment issues including delivering ID cards, processing enrollment forms, checking enrollment status and answering all questions
  • Educate clients and enrollees about their group's benefit plans, coverage, copays, coinsurance and deductibles
  • Additional Responsibilities :

  • Attend relevant internal and external continuing education seminars and trainings to enhance knowledge and skills
  • Complete carrier audits and group size verification forms
  • Be the point person about changes in guidelines or products, relay them to the team and update records or training documents accordingly.
  • Participate in scheduled team and office meetings
  • Provide Account Management backup for the team when necessary during scheduled vacations, personal leave, or at a manager's discretion
  • Qualifications :

  • Excellent communication skills, ability to articulate technical information in Client terms
  • Good listening skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to successfully and creatively problem solve and negotiate solutions
  • Ability to multitask, organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines is essential
  • Preferred : One to five years in an account management position and / or service position in the health and / or benefits industry
  • Proficiency in Windows, Word, Power Point and Excel (high-level spread-sheeting required)
  • Education & Certification

  • 2 or 4 year degree preferred
  • Texas General Lines Insurance License preferred
