Position Summary
The Pilot Line Chemical Operator will join the AirJoule operations team at their pilot line site in Newark, DE. This is a critical position which will directly enable the strategic growth of AirJoule as the key technologies are developed from the lab-scale to pre-production and production scales. The chemical operator should be familiar with operating various chemical processing equipment (pumps, mixers, blowers, etc.), be skilled in troubleshooting equipment, be skilled with common hand tools, have a proven record of adhering to safe operating practices with a safety-first mindset, and have experience with data collection.
Key Responsibilities

- Chemical preparation and loading for liquid chemical batch production.
- Operating chemical equipment throughout batch production.
- Data recording and analysis of batch progress and completion using tools such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Assist in design of experiments and data trend analysis.
- Troubleshoot problems that arise with the processing equipment (pumps, mixers, ovens, etc.).
- Quantitative analysis using tools such as viscometers, density cups, conductivity probes, pH probes, microscopes, and more.
- Strict adherence to company PPE and safety policies.
- Write standard operating procedure (SOP) documents in conjunction with the Process Development Engineer.
- Recommend future process improvements including safety, quality, and efficiency improvements.
- Keep an appropriate inventory of chemicals and consumables to ensure sufficient supply for production.
- Handle multiple tasks within required time frames.
- Properly handle and dispose of waste generated from production.
- Ensure manufacturing area remains clean throughout and after batch production.
- Uphold a safe, respectful, collaborative, inclusive, and appreciative team environment.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or Certification in Chemical Engineering, Chemical Operations, Industrial Engineering, etc.
- Minimum Experience: 3 years of experience in a chemical production facility.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Chemical process equipment operation and troubleshooting.
- Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Writing, following, updating, and improving Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Strong interpersonal communications to work well in a team environment.
- Experience in handling hazardous chemicals and upholding safety standards in the plant.
- Adherence to company PPE policies including use of chemical bunny suits, safety goggles, nitrile gloves, face shields, respirators, etc.
- Passions in hands-on work and project execution to commercialize products.
- Possess effective problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Ability to adapt to change and willingness to be flexible in a global team environment.
Physical Requirements
- Extended periods of walking and standing.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 30 pounds.
- Occasional bending, stooping, reaching.
- Must possess a high degree of manual dexterity and visual acuity.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety goggles, face shields, respirators, chemical bunny suits, gloves, etc.
