Vermont Public is looking for the right person to fill a critical role in the Tech Department. The Chief Engineer - Studio is responsible for keeping Vermont Public’s television and radio studios, control rooms, and related equipment in a state of readiness to support creation of local content and delivery of our network programming. This work is accomplished through a combination of the supervision of studio broadcast and maintenance engineers and hands-on work. Key duties include supervising the Broadcast Engineer - Studio and Maintenance Engineer as well as :
- Oversees the safe and proper operation of the Vermont Public’s television and radio studios, control rooms, technical areas, and related systems.
- Direct work assignments and maintain work schedules for broadcast and maintenance engineers per union contract requirements.
- Obtain and approve time sheets for the supervised employees.
- Monitor and approve (as needed) PTO requests for supervised employees.
- Approve credit card purchases and expense vouchers for supervised employees.
- Monitor appropriate budgets and approve purchase orders as needed.
- Maintain current knowledge on technological and regulatory issues as they relate to broadcast technology.
- Ensure compliance with FCC and other regulatory authorities.
- Work with the production and content teams to successfully stage studio and remote productions.
- Lead technical project design and implementation.
- Work with Sr. VP of technology to develop and manage the annual departmental budget(s).
- May represent Vermont Public to PBS, NPR, VAB and other organizations.
- Serves as a member of Vermont Public’s management team, sharing responsibility for the ongoing operation of the organization and implementation of the strategic plan.
Experience Desired : Technical training and at least 5 years of relevant experience with television and radio studio technology. Prior supervisory experience preferred, Knowledge of computer networks, servers, and workstations and SBE or other comparable industry certification preferred.
