What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utility Locator Underground Utilities position at AirX Utility Surveyors, Inc.?
Job Summary:
The Locator Technician is responsible for accurately locating underground utilities including telecom, electric, cable, gas, fiber optic, water, and sewer.
The role requires an experienced technician with knowledge of underground utilities. Successful candidates will be required to perform all work in a timely, professional, and efficient manner while effectively communicating and interacting with customers, coworkers, and third parties.
Experience using an electromagnetic locator is preferred (RD, Vivax, Metrotech ETC.) Also, will use GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) and other locating equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Observing, locating, marking, and documenting underground and exposed utility locations using multiple methods
- Accurately marking the location, completing necessary documentation, and taking photos of the mark-outs for reports and mapping purposes
- Using machinery and/or tools to perform job duties.
- Walking over all types of terrain in and around construction zones and residential, commercial, industrial, and rural areas in all types of weather conditions
- Ensuring safety while performing safety-sensitive duties
- Operating support equipment safely and wearing appropriate safety apparel.
- Maintaining accuracy in all reporting functions
- Performing work during evening or nighttime hours, overtime, and weekends, as well as extended driving to locate areas as required. Out-of-town/overnight travel and work is occasionally needed.
Requirements:
- Valid, insurable Driver’s License
- Minimum of 3 years of utility locating experience required.
- Ability to walk/stand for multiple hours a day.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to pass a drug test and background check.
Benefits:

Union Hourly Wage rate starting at:
Group I: $26.60 per hour and prevailing wage rate of $45.34 per hour.
Group IV: $30.80 per hour and prevailing wage rate of $49.36 per hour.
