The role requires expertise in mechanical design, material conversion, and process improvement to ensure efficient production and compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with stakeholders to integrate major components consistent with the Data Center Supply Chain strategy, utilizing STEP files provided by the team.
- Convert materials from metric to US standards, ensuring accuracy and compatibility.
- Select and specify fasteners, sheet metal (following Grenada's sheet metal table), piping, fittings, and electrical components that meet UL60335 requirements.
- Adjust dimensioning, tolerances, and clearances as required to optimize designs for production.
- Modify unit heights to a maximum of 8'6" (102") to accommodate flatbed shipping constraints.
- Ensure compatibility with Grenada tooling capabilities for seamless production.
- Investigate and implement best practices for cable and wire routing, referencing Leeds routing design.
- Ensure designs are compatible with REVIT files for integration and further development.
Process-Related Tasks:
- Develop and manage part numbering systems to match Leeds conventions, adding suffixes to distinguish parts between US and UK locations.
- Align new part numbering strategies with Rockbridge's conventions.
- Incorporate lessons learned from past designs, focusing on reducing time consumption in piping, drawing creation, and peer reviews.
- Streamline pipeline design by:
- Modeling worst-case scenarios and simplifying designs for production releases.
- Automating pipe routing, leveraging methodologies such as Xpress Routing.
- Using Leeds routing designs as a reference.
- Automate drawing creation, including view creation, dimensioning, bubble annotations, and notes, to improve efficiency.
- Simplify the peer review process for production drawing releases to expedite approval cycles.
- Automate the export of Bills of Materials (BoM) to the ERP system for streamlined integration.
- Maintain and store design files in the local Longview drive for easy access and version control.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar) and REVIT file management.
- Strong understanding of materials conversion (metric to US), fasteners, sheet metal design, and piping systems.
- Familiarity with electrical components and compliance standards such as UL60335.
- Experience with automating design processes, including pipe routing and drawing creation.
- Knowledge of ERP systems and BoM integration workflows.
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with Grenada tooling or similar production systems.
- Knowledge of Leeds and Rockbridge part numbering strategies.
