Summary:
Perform tasks involving physical labor indoors and outdoors, movement of material, equipment, and parts between production areas, operating hand/power tools of all types: a variety of equipment and instruments. May clean and prepare sites and project locations. May assist other craft workers. This position will require 75% travel to remote areas in the state; hours worked while in travel status could be up to 12 hours per day.
The pay rate for this position is $30.00/hour Admin Rate. Please note this is a full-time, temporary seasonal position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (including but not limited to)
- Locates and moves materials, equipment, and parts between work areas of project location/site to expedite processing of goods, according to pre-determined schedules, needs, and priorities
- General knowledge of the use of manual hand tools and power hand tools
- Locating underground utilities with a shovel
- Working in confined spaces
- Capability to work in a remote camp environment for extended periods of up to 8 weeks
- Provide assistance to staff in the field/site location
- General manual labor, including the use of hand tools and providing manual labor support for project activities and site location.
- Capable of operating all-terrain vehicles
- May assist heavy equipment operator as a ground support person. Identify any hazards as observed for the safety of personnel and equipment
- Requires the ability to properly wear, use, and maintain personal respirator equipment and/or other forms of personal protective equipment (PPE) on HAZWOPER sites
- Monitor job site for hazards and maintain a safe working environment
- Possess good housekeeping skills with attention to detail on environmental hazards to reduce personal exposure and potential spreading of hazardous contaminants.
- Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials
- Participate in the Ahtna medical surveillance program, in accordance with 29CFR 1910.120
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
- Valid Driver’s License with the ability to be insured to operate company vehicles
- Knowledge of construction machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance, and practical application of use
- Ability to pass HAZWOPER physical and respirator fit test
- Ability to complete pre-employment background check and drug screening
Preferred Qualifications
- 40-Hour HAZWOPER Course and 8-Hour HAZWOPER refresher within the last 12 months
- Current Alaska Department of Labor Certificate of Fitness for Asbestos Abatement
- Lead Awareness course completion
- Knowledge and experience with Alaska Native cultures

Physical Demands (including but not limited to):
- Frequent lifting, sitting, standing, and stooping for prolonged periods of time, using hands/fingers requiring dexterity, should have good hand-eye coordination and motion control in coordination with handling tools, equipment, and other related components.
- Reaching with hands and arms for items above and below sight level, talking, hearing, and seeing (up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth, color perception, and the ability to adjust focus); walking from place to place within the project location with occasional use of stairs and no elevator available; bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for up to 12 hours.
- Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds, such as small electrical components, equipment, and other materials.
