The Executive Producer for Data Journalism is the senior custodian of AJ editorial guidelines, identity and agenda in all our outputs, reporting to the Editorial Manager and assisting the supervising EPs of the newsroom and studios. The role maintains and manages the gatekeeping systems for maintaining editorial standards in all outputs, including overseeing the copy-editing and fact-checking staff and systems. This includes maintenance of the editorial style-guide and reporting protocols. The role works with the Editorial Manager to shape the always-evolving AJ editorial agenda, and with the relevant EPs in the newsroom and studios to implement that agenda.
The role builds and implements a robust system of regular editorial review of AJ outputs — a process designed to ensure the incorporation of learnings by editorial staff and development of their editorial abilities. The role oversees additional training and development as needed to raise the quality of editorial output of AJ , as well as ensuring compliance with the highest standards of journalistic ethics.
Role Responsibilities :
- Working with Editorial Manager to shape the always-evolving AJ editorial agenda, and with the relevant EPs in the newsroom and studios to implement that agenda and review our efforts to do so.
- Providing editorial input and guidance during the daily newsroom story-selection process led by the newsroom supervising EP.
- Ensuring that statistics published by AJ are robustly checked through the fact-checking process.
- Develop coverage guidelines as necessary on key, challenging topics.
- Participating in data visualization outputs working closely with the Creative team.
- Implementing a robust system of weekly editorial review of AJ outputs, developing that to ensure that editorial staff are able to incorporate key learnings to improve their overall editorial strength.
- Providing direct editorial input on key scripts as necessary in daily output, ensuring for accuracy, clarity, style, effectiveness in communicating concepts and consistency with AJ editorial values.
- Maintaining and overseeing a system that provides all necessary copy-editing and fact-checking to newsroom and studios outputs.
- Overseeing ongoing training and development initiatives to raise editorial standards and ensure compliance with best practices and journalistic ethics.
- Maintenance of editorial style guides and reporting protocols.
