What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bailiff/Process Server position at Ak-Chin Indian Community?
Summary
Under general supervision, performs a variety of tasks for the maintenance of order during court proceedings; serves a variety of court documents.
Minimum Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED equivalent and experience equivalent to one year of experience in public service and office clerical work preferably related to tribal court, law enforcement or a legal setting. Must have the ability to obtain Arizona Certified Process Server certification (ACPS) within six (6) months from date of hire. Must have a valid Arizona Driver's License and be able to meet the Community's insurance carrier requirements. Must successfully complete a background check.
Examples of Duties
- Prepares courtroom for proceedings. Opens court through announcement of the entry of Judge into courtroom.
- Remains in courtroom throughout court proceedings, monitoring courtroom activities and taking appropriate action(s) to maintain a courtroom environment that is secure, safe and orderly, including removing disruptive person(s).
- Contacts detention officers for prisoners' escort at the end of proceedings. Assists the presiding Judge and Clerk of the Court with the efficient administration of the Court proceedings.
- Acts to buffer judges from parties, legal representatives, and public.
- Provides support and assistance to a variety of other judicial staff, including answering phone, greeting visitors, and aiding/answers to questions.
- Serves subpoenas, summons, and other court documents to witnesses/defendants.
- Escorts and seats witness and jurors to assigned areas.
- Files security, monthly, and incident reports.
- Maintains records of prisoners appearing in court.
- Maintains security, serviceability and cleanliness of the court and court administration buildings.
- Maintains copies of booking reports and process service logs.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned
Other Requirements
- Knowledge of general Ak-Chin Indian Community criminal, civil, and juvenile court system policies, procedures, and operations.
- Knowledge of the laws governing individual privacy.
- Knowledge of the required contents, information and documents in case files and records.
- Skill in applying appropriate intervention methods to maintain order within court setting.
- Skill in locating defendants, witnesses, and others to serve court documents.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other criminal justice/law enforcement departments/personnel, community members, other tribal organizations, and people from a variety of social-economic backgrounds.
- Skill in using a variety of office equipment including telephone, copiers, and personal computer.
- Skill in following oral and written instructions.
- Skill in composing/preparing simple records using correct English grammar.
Salary : $18 - $25
