What are the responsibilities and job description for the Diesel Mechanic position at Ak-Chin Indian Community?
Performs journey-level mechanical work on gasoline and diesel powered vehicles, heavy, and other mechanical related equipment and components.High School diploma or GED; degree/certificate from a vocational/technical school, including or supplemented by courses in diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulics, heavy equipment repair, mechanics, and shop practices; plus three (3) years experience as a journeyman-level automotive and/or heavy equipment mechanic; OR any combination of training, education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Must be able to lift 100 lbs. Must have a valid Arizona Driver's License and be able to meet the Community's insurance carrier requirements. Must successfully complete a background check.
- Troubleshoots, diagnoses, repairs and maintains a variety of diesel engines, such as Cummins and CAT, and small trucks and cars.
- Troubleshoots, diagnoses, repairs and maintains drive train components, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and air brakes, suspension systems and a variety of clutches on trucks and related equipment.
- Troubleshoots, diagnoses, repairs and maintains undercarriages, tracks, sprockets, cutting edges, rollers, cooling systems and all power train components on heavy construction equipment.
- Schedules and performs preventive maintenance on vehicles, equipment, and machinery.
- Conducts safety inspections on vehicles, equipment, and machinery to ensure compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations.
- Responds to road calls during work hours.
- Maintains accurate records; orders supplies, parts, and materials, and will pick-up parts as necessary.
- Repairs flat tires and mounts on vehicles, equipment, and machinery.
- Documents maintenance and repairs of vehicles and equipment, and prepares work orders.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge and experience in maintenance and repair of heavy diesel engines, gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, air brake systems, heavy-duty transmissions, and engine/transmission cooling systems.
- Working knowledge of the construction, assembly, adjustment, maintenance and repair of diversified automotive and/or heavy equipment, including heavy trucks, and various types of special equipment.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety procedures/precautions to be taken to avoid injuries and mishaps.
- Ability to perform diagnostics, and remedy causes of malfunctions in a timely, cost-effective manner.
- Skill in the use of all types of garage tools and equipment of trade.
- Ability to maintain accurate and complete records.
- Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department staff, superiors, other employees, and the general public.
- Ability to use a computer to input and retrieve information.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements.
- Ability to travel to different sites and locations within the Phoenix city limits.
