Duties and Responsibilities :
Performs case preparation duties including reviewing case records, assembling necessary information, and continually updating case status and progress in case file folders.
Researches a variety of legal issues by locating applicable precedents, legal opinions, statutes, and orders by computerized research or hard copy.
Analyzes and organizes facts and evidence and presents material in written form.
Prepares drafts or edits documents including motions, disclosure and correspondence.
Prepares and maintains all files for hearings, conferences, and trials. Calendars and monitors case status including calendaring all hearings, due dates for motions, responsive motions, and disclosure.
Conducts interviews in person and over the telephone regarding complaints, disclosure, depositions, witness statements, and other aspects of cases.
Analyzes and investigates issues and other evidentiary problems on existing cases and summarizes information in detailed written form.
Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
Makes oral presentations and produces written reports.
Maintains statistics for use in monthly or other reports.
Performs other related work duties as assigned.
Other Requirements :
Knowledge of legal terminology, principles, precedents, procedures, and research methods.
Knowledge of Rules of Court, Evidence, and Discovery, Federal Privacy Act, Freedom of Information Act, Ak-Chin Indian Community Law and Order Code, and Tribal ordinances.
Knowledge of investigative and interviewing techniques and procedures.
Ability to understand and follow written and oral directions.
Ability to work cooperatively with other employees, attorneys, outside agencies, defendants, and the public. Ability to write and produce documents written in English language using proper sentence structure, punctuation, grammar, and spelling.
Ability to communicate orally in the English language with attorneys, outside agencies, defendants, and the public via telephone, face-to-face, and one-to-one settings.
Ability to research applicable precedents, legal opinions, statutes, and orders.
Ability to draft motions, briefs, and opinions.
Ability to prepare and review records, legal documents, and correspondence.
Ability to interview witnesses, investigate evidentiary issues, and assist in case preparation and monitoring.
Ability to perform assignments with considerable independence and following office policies.
Ability to maintain strict confidentially of all aspects of cases and assignments.
Classification Status :
This is a non-exempt position.
