Position Summary
Akela is seeking an experienced Senior Consultant – Grants to join our growing team. This role involves providing expert guidance and support to clients in securing, managing, and reporting on grants, while ensuring compliance with funding requirements. The Senior Consultant will play a critical role in helping clients maximize their funding opportunities and strengthen their grants management practices.
This position will primarily support a federal civilian agency managing loan, grant, and financial aid programs, with opportunities to contribute to Akela's growth as a premier consulting firm. The role is hybrid, with occasional in-person meetings for client or team needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Grant Program Strategy: Assist federal government clients in establishing grant programs with a focus on maintaining program integrity while also distributing funds efficiently.
- Grant Award Support: Support clients in eligibility determination, award management, and effective distribution of funds to reduce the risk of improper payments and fraud.
- Grants Management: Oversee the implementation of grant-funded programs, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements and budget management.
- Compliance & Regulatory Oversight: Develop compliance programs to confirm grantees are compliant with grant award terms and other regulations.
- Client Collaboration: Engage with client stakeholders to understand their needs, provide guidance throughout the grant lifecycle, and offer strategic solutions for grant success.
- Training & Capacity Building: Provide training and resources to client teams to enhance their knowledge and capabilities in grants management and compliance.
- Process Improvement: Evaluate and improve clients' grant management processes, helping to streamline workflows and increase efficiency in securing and managing funds.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 3-8 years of experience in grants management, compliance, audit or related consulting field, with a proven track record of securing and managing large grants.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline (Master’s degree preferred).
- Travel: Up to 50%
- US Citizenship
- Certifications: Certified Grants Management Specialist or other relevant certifications are a plus.
- Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of federal grants and associated regulations (e.g., OMB Circulars, Uniform Guidance).
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex grant requirements clearly and concisely.
- Project Management: Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to handle multiple grants and deadlines simultaneously.
- Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to identify and solve issues related to grant management and compliance, using a proactive approach.
- Teamwork: Proven experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, and a strong commitment to client success.
