Description
The Medical Billing Specialist I codes patient records, ensures accuracy and compliance for healthcare professional Workers' Comp claims. Maintain databases and audit patient charts and billing information for accurate processing of claims. Analyze, identify, and resolve billing issues that cause payment delays. Research and resolve patient, provider, and insurance company inquiries in a timely manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Review documentation and identify billable procedures : abstract and code, utilizing ICD-10, CPT, Modifiers and HCPCS code classifications with accordance to California Official Medical Fee Schedule.
- Communicate with Physicians and / or Clinic Managers to ensure documentation substantiates services performed.
- Thoroughly review Physician's documentation and perform audits to determine accuracy and identify gaps.
- Collaborate with other departments to obtain and analyze additional information for accurate billing.
- Accurately route bills to either the employer or WC carrier; and adhere to employer billing requests.
- Verify completeness and accuracy prior to sending CMS1500 and Medical Records to insurance.
- Re bill denials and rejections.
- Add claim numbers and adjuster contact information to the chart.
- Keep an accurate record of communication regarding a bill.
- Comply with all applicable HIPAA policies and procedures.
- Comply with all California Official Medical Fee Schedule Guidelines.
- Maintain communication with supervisor regarding significant issues or patterns observed.
- Assist with assigned projects that pertain to billing under the direction of the Billing Supervisor.
