Position Overview:
As an Assembly Technician at AKG, you will be responsible for assembling large and complex cooling systems based on detailed work order instructions and 3D computer models. Your duties will include locating and retrieving parts, assembling units, and ensuring quality standards are met. Once assembly is complete, you will transport the units to the packaging area using motorized overhead cranes or forklifts and assist in loading them onto flatbed trucks for shipping. Your role is critical in ensuring the efficient and accurate assembly of cooling systems for timely delivery.
Essential Functions:
- Read and understand work instructions and blueprints.
- Open, manipulate, and understand 3D computer models.
- Inspect the quality of coolers, steel parts, fans, drive components (e.g., bearings, bushings, sheaves, and shafts). Use corrective tools to make repairs and adjustments as needed.
- Locate and retrieve parts required for assembly.
- Move cooling packages between work areas using motorized cranes.
- Assemble and attach parts to the cooling package, following blueprint instructions and 3D models.
- Document that the unit has been assembled according to AKG and industry standards.
- Meet production quotas set by the Lead or Supervisor.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of parts used in the assembly of High Horsepower Units.
- Report any issues to the supervisor or appropriate personnel promptly.
- Adhere to all policies, procedures, and environmental management system (EMS) requirements set by AKG.
- Regular physical attendance is required. Refer to AKG’s attendance policy in the Information Handbook for Employees.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to walk (30%) and stand (70%) throughout the workday. May require bending, stooping, pulling, pushing, twisting, and turning.
- Ability to lift to 50 lbs. (20%) of the time.
- Ability to operate motorized cranes, ladders, scaffolding, power tools, and basic mechanical tools.
- Use of safety equipment, including steel-toe shoes, safety glasses, and bump caps. Safety glasses and bump caps are provided.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience in a manufacturing environment is required; prior experience in final assembly is preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Availability to work the agreed-upon shift.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to use basic computer programs, including manipulating and interpreting 3D computer models.
- Ability to read and understand detailed blueprint instructions.
- Basic math skills and ability to use measuring tools.
- Excellent attention to detail.
