Location: Santa Fe Indian Health Center & Two Satellite Clinics (Santa Clara Health Center Dental and Cochiti Health Clinic Dental)
Position Overview:
The Dental Hygienist will provide comprehensive oral healthcare services to patients at the Santa Fe Indian Health Center and designated satellite clinics. This role involves delivering preventive and therapeutic dental hygiene care, educating patients on oral health, and assisting the dental team in treatment planning.
Work Schedule:
Shift Options:
8-Hour Shift: 7:30 am – 4:30 pm
9-Hour Shift: 7:30 am – 5:00 pm (with a 30-minute unpaid lunch)
No on-call, weekends, or federal holidays
Work hours must be assigned monthly, and the employee must work 100% of contracted hours.
Rotation into other duty sections may be required to support patient care.
Responsibilities:
-Perform clinical dental hygiene treatments, including child and adult prophylaxis, periodontal debridement, scaling/root planing, and administration of topical/local anesthesia.
-Conduct oral healthcare evaluations and risk assessments for new and recall patients, including vitals, medical/dental history reviews, radiographic imaging, dental charting, caries risk assessments, and periodontal screenings.
-Utilize electronic dental records (Dentrix) for documentation and dental hygiene treatment planning.
-Take radiographic images and interpret results to assist the dentist in treatment planning.
-Provide oral health education and hygiene instruction, including information on caries prevention, periodontal disease, tobacco cessation, nutritional counseling, and the systemic effects of oral disease.
-Administer preventive services, such as sealants, fluoride applications, desensitizing agents, and cavity prevention treatments.
-Ensure proper chairside infection control, including the disinfection and sterilization of instruments, supplies, and equipment.
-Assist in establishing and maintaining a periodontal patient recall system.
-Participate in dental staff meetings and research current dental literature to enhance the oral hygiene program.
Absence and Work Flexibility Policy:
Any work absence must be approved by the contractor's agency, which will notify the COR/Alternate COR.
For absences exceeding working hours, requests must be submitted at least 15 calendar days in advance, except in verifiable emergencies.
If absent for three (3) or more consecutive days due to illness, documentation from a healthcare provider is required, including:
-Cause of illness/incapacitation
-Whether the individual is contagious or non-contagious
-The Government reserves the right to examine or re-examine any contractor who meets these criteria.
Required Qualifications & Certifications:
Education: Degree from an accredited Dental Hygiene Program.
Licensure: Valid, unrestricted license to practice as a Dental Hygienist in any U.S. state.
Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Dental Hygienist.
Certifications:
-Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
-Radiology certification (as required)
