POSITION INFORMATION
Position Title: Infection Control Preventionist (RN)
Department: Division of Quality Management - Infection Control
Location: Gallup Indian Medical Center, Indian Health Service
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
Basic Life Support (BLS)
A valid registered nurse (RN) license
Certified Infection Control Preventionist (CIC) credentialed
SCHEDULE & HOURS
Hours per pay period: Not specified
Shift pattern: 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday
On-call requirements: Occasional evening and weekend coverage to meet Infection Control needs
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide leadership in infection control compliance and regulatory adherence.
Function as an expert clinician and role model in infection prevention and control.
Utilize evidence-based research to enhance infection prevention strategies and policies.
Conduct and disseminate infection control research findings to improve treatment and disease management.
Perform surveillance and quality improvement rounds to ensure compliance with infection prevention protocols.
Observe aseptic techniques, standard precautions, and quality control programs across hospital units.
Collaborate with hospital departments to enhance infection control measures and performance improvement initiatives.
Maintain comprehensive records, data, and reports related to Performance Improvement and Infection Control programs.
Develop and manage databases to track infection rates and trends.
Analyze surveillance data to identify deviations and implement corrective actions.
Ensure compliance with infection control standards set by TJC, CMS, OSHA, CDC, IHS, and GSU.
Conduct surveillance to identify hospital- and community-acquired infections.
Participate in clinical/patient rounds and conduct medical record reviews as needed.
Work closely with nursing staff to track and manage hospital-acquired infections.
SPECIALIZED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE
Minimum of 3 years of experience in Infection Prevention.
Expertise in infection control regulations, compliance, and quality improvement methodologies.
Strong data analysis and surveillance skills for infection tracking and prevention.
Ability to conduct research and implement evidence-based infection control practices.
Excellent communication and leadership skills to guide infection prevention initiatives across healthcare teams.
