POSITION INFORMATION
Position Title : PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) Nurse
Department : Operating Room, Nursing Branch
Location : Gallup Indian Medical Center, Indian Health Service
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Basic Life Support (BCLS)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
SCHEDULE & HOURS
Hours per pay period : 80 hours
Shift pattern : 8-hour day shifts, Monday-Friday, including weekends and holidays
On-call requirements : Required for after-hours, weekends, and holidays
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide intensive nursing and post-anesthesia care to patients undergoing various surgical procedures.
Rotate between pre-op counseling, pre-surgery room, recovery room, and local procedures room .
Perform critical nursing duties for patients requiring specialized care.
Conduct observation and assessment post-anesthesia , including :
Physical assessment and examination
Interviewing patients and family members
Reviewing patient health history
Collaborate with surgeons and anesthesia team to assess patient status and plan of care.
Monitor patients for adverse signs and symptoms , providing emergency intervention using ACLS or PALS training.
Manage patients throughout all recovery phases , offering psychological and emotional support.
Remain vigilant for signs of shock or complications during post-op recovery.
Assist anesthesia or surgical team with resuscitation, patient assessment, and condition monitoring.
Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, oxygen, and other therapeutic treatments as prescribed.
Record observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures, and hemodynamic monitoring data in the recovery room.
Implement, evaluate, and revise nursing plans of care using AORN standards of care .
SPECIALIZED SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE
Expertise in post-anesthesia care and recovery room nursing .
Knowledge of critical care nursing and emergency interventions .
Proficiency in AORN standards of care for operative patients.
Ability to monitor and respond to post-operative complications , including shock.
Experience in collaborative care with surgeons and anesthesiologists .
