Akicita Federal is seeking a Pharmacist to provide comprehensive pharmaceutical services at the Indian Health Service (IHS) facility in Towaoc, CO. The selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe and effective use of medications, providing clinical pharmacy services, and collaborating with healthcare providers to optimize patient outcomes. This role requires a strong commitment to serving Native American communities and an understanding of culturally competent healthcare practices.
Key Responsibilities
-Dispense and verify prescription medications while ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations.
-Provide patient counseling on medication usage, potential side effects, and adherence to prescribed regimens.
-Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop and adjust treatment plans based on patient responses and needs.
-Conduct medication therapy management (MTM) to optimize therapeutic outcomes and minimize adverse effects.
-Monitor for drug interactions, contraindications, and medication-related problems.
-Ensure compliance with IHS, FDA, DEA, and state pharmacy regulations.
-Maintain accurate pharmacy records, including inventory management, prescription documentation, and patient medication histories.
-Participate in quality improvement initiatives and medication safety programs.
-Train and oversee pharmacy technicians and other support staff as needed.
Required Qualifications
-Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an ACPE-accredited institution.
-Active, unrestricted pharmacist license in any U.S. state.
-Minimum of 2 years of clinical pharmacy experience, preferably in a hospital, ambulatory care, or IHS setting.
-Experience working with electronic health records (EHR), preferably RPMS or other IHS-specific systems.
-Strong knowledge of federal pharmacy laws, regulations, and clinical guidelines.
-Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
-Excellent communication skills and cultural competence in working with Native American populations.
Preferred Qualifications
-Prior experience working with IHS or tribal healthcare systems.
-Board Certification in Pharmacotherapy (BCPS) or other relevant specialty.
-Familiarity with chronic disease management and public health initiatives in Native American communities.
