Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking a Business Development Manager to help drive the strategic growth of the firm’s Private Capital practice, with a particular focus on Capital Solutions. This position will reside in the New York office with hybrid work capabilities and report to the Senior Business Development Manager.
The ideal Business Development Manager is expected to have substantial knowledge of the asset management industry, and to develop a deep understanding of our clients’ businesses and our firm. The Business Development Manager is a creative thinker, is passionate about identifying and driving opportunities for revenue growth, has strong written and verbal skills, a client service-oriented approach, attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and works well in teams and autonomously. The Business Development Manager must be organized and have strong follow-through, proactive, be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, adapt to changing priorities, and work well in a fast-paced environment.
Key responsibilities of this position include :
Help to drive the strategic growth of the firm’s Private Capital practice
Manage pitches, proposals, and responses to RFPs, and related research and follow-through
Research, analyze and drive the strategy on client growth opportunities, in collaboration with firm’s attorneys, business development colleagues and research team
Manage client targeting initiatives
Write and maintain marketing collateral, including web content, pitch books, attorney biographies and other marketing assets
Collaborate with other members of the marketing and business development team to facilitate information-sharing and cross-selling among practices
Manage group meetings, including developing agendas and meeting notes
Facilitate internal communications and knowledge sharing among team members and across the firm
Assist with lateral partner integration
Respond to various industry awards, surveys and directories
Keep apprised of market, client and competitor trends, and disseminate information on key developments and actionable information as appropriate
Identify and implement opportunities for thought leadership and content marketing
Evaluate and coordinate speaking and other visibility efforts
Assist with the ongoing collection, maintenance and accuracy of our experience database
Contribute to league table reporting
Assist with event execution
Manage group contact lists and CRM data
Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities) :
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a marketing-related field. Advanced degree, JD or MBA a plus
Minimum of 5 years of experience in the legal, financial or professional services industry
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong editing skills
Strong project management skills
Strong work ethic and service orientation
Strong critical thinking and sense of discretion
Commitment to professional growth and development
Ability to prioritize and manage workload, work independently and as a member of teams, and complete tasks under time pressure as necessary
Poise, tact and professionalism when interacting with internal and external contacts.
Strong computer skills including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint are essential
Experience with CapitalIQ, PitchBook, Preqin, Bloomberg and other transactions databases
Experience with InterAction or other CRM
Financial research experience a plus
The anticipated base salary range for this position in New York is $132,000 to $179,000. The actual salary offered will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, years of relevant experience, certifications or other professional licenses held, job-related knowledge and skills, business needs, and the location from which the work will be performed. Additionally, salary or hourly wages may be only part of the total compensation package, which may also include a full range of health and other insurance benefits, financial and / or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility), a discretionary bonus, and various paid time off benefits.
