Job Title: Transformer Design Engineer

Akkodis is seeking a skilled Transformer Design Engineer for a full-time, direct hire and onsite role in Aurora, OH. This position is responsible for the design and development of utility voltage specialty power transformers used in mission-critical applications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop electrical transformers specifically for use in Power Distribution Units, including step-down, step-up, and isolation transformers.
• Select appropriate materials, components, and configurations to meet PDU specifications, ensuring safe and efficient power distribution.
• Design transformers to operate effectively under varying electrical loads while meeting industry standards.
• Perform detailed electrical, thermal, and mechanical analysis of transformer designs to ensure high efficiency, minimal losses, and thermal performance.
• Oversee prototype development and testing, ensuring transformers meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards.
• Review test results, analyze data, and refine designs to ensure reliability and compliance.
• Ensure transformer designs adhere to industry standards including IEEE, IEC, UL, CSA, and ANSI.
• Stay updated on the latest industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies.
• Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, testing protocols, and analysis reports.
• Generate detailed drawings and design documents.
• Provide technical support and guidance to manufacturing teams during the production and assembly of transformers.

Qualifications:

• BSEE with 10 years of experience or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (PhD preferred)
• 5 years of experience in transformer design, expertise in transformer design specific to power distribution applications is preferred
• In-depth knowledge of transformer components, electrical systems, load balancing, thermal management, and reliability and safety standards for PDUs
• Proficiency in CAD software and electrical design software
• Strong understanding of power distribution systems, electrical safety standards, and transformer testing methods
• Familiarity with applicable standards (IEEE, IEC, UL, CSA) for transformers and PDUs
• Ability to manage multiple design projects with competing deadlines
