Job Description Summary
The Sr. Systems Integration Engineer will support Akoya’s PhenoCycler® and PhenoImager® product lines during design, development, testing, and deployment. They will provide technical assessments and guidance for software, imaging, and assay workflows to optimize performance, reliability, usability, and quality. This position will work closely with software, hardware, and reagent development teams to ensure robust integration at the system level. The ideal candidate would obtain extensive product knowledge, understanding the entire workflow that Akoya’s customers follow, from sample preparation through data analysis. This position plays a critical role in both new product introductions and sustaining improvements to on-market products.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Become familiar with all aspects of Akoya’s end-to-end workflows to cultivate an end-user perspective
- Develop expertise in Akoya instrument product operation and integration between hardware, software, and assay components of automated fluidics and imaging systems
- Perform root cause analysis for internal and in-field customer issues by analyzing data or performing on-site experiments
- Design and execute experiments to quantify system performance against product requirements
- Perform feature verification and testing of release candidate software builds and hardware changes
- Troubleshoot in-development features with minimal supervision
- Support new product development with exploratory analysis and proof of concept demonstrations
- Analyze complex image-based datasets and present summarized results to a cross-functional audience
- Maintain and configure internal Akoya instruments for use in troubleshooting, diagnostics, and development
- Provide technical guidance and training on instrument operation and integration to internal Akoya personnel
- Contribute to customer-facing training documents and marketing collateral
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Skills
- BS/MS in Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, or related engineering disciplines with 5 years industry experience; or PhD in equivalent fields with 2 years industry experience
- 5 years of experience related to fluorescent microscopy
- Hands-on experience integration testing complex instruments, preferably those that include fluidic handling and fluorescence imaging
- Experience with scripting and developing quantitative image assessments using MATLAB, Python, ImageJ, or other image analysis tools
- Experience working with, testing, and debugging novel software or hardware changes
- Good visual acuity and high level of attention to detail
- Methodical troubleshooting skills with a curiosity-driven approach to problem solving.
- Ability to work independently on complex tasks from planning to completion
- Ability to collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary team towards team and corporate goals
- Highly organized with strong data and time management skills
- Experience imaging and/or staining tissue samples, especially immunohistochemistry or immunofluorescence samples preferred
- Experience with assay development and troubleshooting, preferably with automated fluidics and imaging preferred
- Experience supporting customers or generating customer-facing materials preferred
The hiring range for this position is $112,000 - $140,000 per year, which may factor in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. Our full-time regular positions also include an annual performance-based bonus (or a sales incentive plan) and long-term incentive units (equity) provided as part of our compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
