The Energy and Environment group at AKRF is seeking an Environmental Scientist to support our natural resources work. The position is in our New York City office.
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepare natural resources sections of reports for environmental review documents in accordance with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA), and local environmental regulations
- Assist in preparing permit applications to federal and state agencies for projects that may include changes in land use, dredging, wetlands or shoreline modification, potential impacts to threatened or endangered species, mitigation or habitat enhancement
- Conduct field work (e.g., reconnaissance investigations, wetland delineations, tree inventories, etc.) in varying and at times adverse conditions
- Collect, identify, and compile environmental data from multiple sources for project-related research, surveys, reports, and applications.
- Use topographic maps, aerial photographs, GPS data, and other visualization tools to determine existing conditions, environmental site impact, and other site characteristics.
Essential Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in an environmental science or related field
- Exceptional research, critical thinking, and technical writing skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously
- Willingness and physical ability to hike 3 to 5 miles per day in rough terrain with field gear
- Initiative and ability to take on new projects and other challenges regularly
- Dependability and an eagerness to take ownership of tasks
- Collaborative working style and team-player attitude
- Valid driver’s license
- Willingness to travel throughout the tri-state area
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Compensation will range from $67K - $75K commensurate with experience.
