Summary
The Student Intern at Akron Children’s will provide administrative support, be engaged in research, and participate in patient engagement initiatives at the Regional Burn Center. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain exposure to pediatric burn care while assisting with non-clinical tasks, patient advocacy efforts, and hospital operations. Akron Children’s Burn Unit is the only institute in the region performing translational burn wound research. The Student Intern will assist in research data collection, analysis, literature review, manuscript production and presentation and regional/national conferences. The student will participate in retrospective database studies and prospective translational work.

Responsibilities
- Assist with research, data collection, and quality improvement projects.
- Support hospital staff with administrative tasks, including scheduling and documentation.
- Help organize educational materials for patients, families, and caregivers.
- Assist in coordinating patient and family support programs.
- Work alongside child life specialists and social workers to enhance patient experience.
- Participate in team meetings and hospital-sponsored training sessions.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow all hospital policies and procedures.
Technical Expertise:
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
- Current enrollment in a healthcare-related or administrative program (Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Psychology, etc.).
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to interact professionally and compassionately with pediatric patients and families.
- Interest in pediatric healthcare and hospital operations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic data entry preferred.
