This is advanced, lead accounting and coordination work. An employee in this classification is responsible for maintenance of all accounting records for a function or organization, for the accurate, effective, and efficient operation of an established accounting system requiring procedural and allocation decisions, to audit and approve the accuracy of records kept in the field, to make improvements in the fiscal system or changes in the system to accomplish special objectives, and to prepare complex accounting reports. This employee works under the direction of an administrator with considerable opportunity for exercising independent judgment in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of the job.

Essential Functions:
- Plans, schedules and coordinates the maintenance of all the accounting and statistical records of a major program or principal function
- Works alone with full responsibility for clerical accounting activities for a major program or office as needed
- Reviews and researches methods and procedures and suggests improvements or changes in the fiscal system to accomplish special objectives
- Plans, coordinates, monitors and participates in the preparation of complex accounting reports (i.e. payroll, garnishments, travel vouchers, and mileage reimbursements, etc.)
- Coordinates the establishment and maintenance of a variety of manual and computerized file and data base systems
- Coordinates, monitors and audits the work of other account clerical personnel
- Analyzes accounts to determine causes of results
- Answers questions or inquiries from employees, vendors and others
- Audits, validates and corrects records kept in the field or sent in by others
- Traces, reviews and reconciles records and support documents and determines corrective measures for adjusting discrepancies and errors
- Prepares summary, statistical and comparative reports
- Operates a variety of office equipment such as a computer with standardized and customized business software, on-line terminal, printer, calculator, photocopier, and typewriter
- Promotes good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
- Maintains respect for confidential information
- Performs related work as required
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, and terminology of clerical accounting work
- Considerable knowledge of governmental accounting principles and procedures
- Considerable knowledge of modern office practices and procedures and the operation of electronic and standard office equipment
- Skill in computer operations using job-related software
- Skill in written and oral business communications
- Skill in establishing, maintaining and analyzing complex records and accounts
- Skill in accurately carrying out a number of clerical accounting transactions through multiple steps and in tracing such activity through previous steps in order of locate errors, gather specific information or develop procedural explanations.
- Skill in preparing statistical and fiscal reports
- Skill in organization, time management, and decision-making
- Ability to delegate and coordinate the clerical accounting activities of office assistants
