QUALIFICATIONS:

- Graduation from an accredited high school or GED;
- Possess a valid State of Ohio Driver’s License with less than 6 points;
- A minimum of one (1) year experience in grounds maintenance operations including moderately complex automotive and grounds maintenance equipment;
Desired:
- Must obtain a valid State of Ohio Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement within 6 months of hire date.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
- Reports to the Foreman in the department in which he/she is assigned;
- Ensure safety of students;
- Assist in the maintenance of buildings and grounds in a clean and presentable manner;
- Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation;
- Assist in lawn mowing at all facilities;
- Responsible for service and maintenance of trucks, tractors and lawn mowers and participates in shoveling and painting and repairing equipment;
- Install and repair all guardrails, playground equipment and chain link fences on property owned by the Board of Education;
- Repair cracks and holes in asphalt with hot and cold patch;
- Repair concrete steps, landing, and walls;
- Assist and operate the rollers and graders to prepare tracks for track season;
- Assist in the operation of the bucket truck to repair flag poles, hang banners/flags, remove trees and/or tree limbs, etc.;
- Perform warehouse work (e.g., stock and restock furniture, take inventory, assemble new furniture and repair broken furniture;
- Deliver inter-building mail to all school buildings;
- Deliver and pick up Testing material to all schools;
- Assist in hauling salt, sand, gravel, etc. using dump truck;
- Assist in the use of a front loader and tow motor to load or move materials;
- Assist in hauling of furniture and delivering mail, film, equipment, etc. to school buildings using various size vans
- Assist in the operation of various types of lawn mowers, seeding, aerating, and fertilizing equipment;
- Assist in operation of the truck with plow, salt spreader, or snow blower to remove snow and ice from the various Board of Education properties;
- Receive, store and distribute all grounds materials, supplies and equipment;
- Inventory equipment and supplies;
- Responsible for the inspection, care, condition, appearance, repair and/or replacement of physical equipment, buildings, facilities and grounds;
- Attend meetings and seminars as required;
- Recommend materials, supplies and equipment needed for completing custodial and/or maintenance work;
- Assist in the development and operation of maintenance records and reports;
- Serve as a source of information on areas involving grounds;
- Maintain safety and maintenance records;
- Help to determine and initiate the proper action to be taken effectively and expeditiously to complete repairs in accordance with school policy, sound maintenance practices, priority and urgency of operations;
- Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy;
- Maintain respect at all times for confidential information (e.g., personnel information);
- Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents;
- Preparation of athletic fields for competition;
- Conduct movement of furniture, equipment, supplies and inter-school mail;
- Ability to listen effectively, actively;
- Ability to problem solve;
- Ability to work effectively with others;
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing;
- Ability to work independently;
- Knowledge of city ordinances as the pertain to above outlined responsibilities;
- Knowledge of the proper care and storage of chemicals;
- Ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions, written warnings and labels;
- Knowledge of the effective and safe operation of moderately complex automotive and grounds maintenance equipment;
- Knowledge of the component parts of the equipment used, its performance limits, and the preventive maintenance necessary to keep it in operation;
- Perform related duties as assigned by the Grounds Foreman or designee.
