The Akron Board of Education announces an opening for an English/Language Arts Teacher at the Akron Alternative Academy High School - North Satellite, Job Code 006, TS 380 (190 Days), Starting Salary $46,608.70. Extended time may be required before and/or after the school year for this position which would be compensated at the hourly extended time rate. Collective Bargaining Unit – AEA. This is a State Teachers Retirement System position.

QUALIFICATIONS - Required:
- Valid state of Ohio licensure in English 7-12 or Language Arts 7-12;
- Ability to work collaboratively;
- Attend professional development activities that improve skills in working with alternative students;
- Evidence of successful classroom teaching.
- Interest in working with the at-risk high school student;
- Ability to apply behavior strategies;
- Flexible in working with alternative behaviors;
- Comfortable with the degree of flexibility in the application of The Code of Student Behavior.
- Teach standards-based lessons following the district pacing guides;
- Monitor/improve student behavior, attendance and academic progress;
- Design a program which enhances education, social/emotional development growth;
- Incorporate technology in classroom lessons;
- Use common planning time to monitor and plan for student progress;
- Incorporate into the program a range of social services to benefit the overall development of the students;
- Compile data necessary to evaluate the success of the program;
- Keep in close contact with the home through periodic visits, phone calls, and written communications;
- Report and carry out other responsibilities as assigned by the building principal.
