Educational Assistants
This position is responsible for assisting with the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school and all school-related events. Responsible for assisting students on/off bus and ensuring the student's safety at all times. Assists assigned driver with loading/unloading wheelchair bound students in bus designed for handicap student transportation. Position is required to monitor student behavior while on the bus and document any incidents of policy violations, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Essential Functions:
.. Secure latch connection on seat belts or harnesses
.. Check wheel chair tie downs to be sure they are secure
.. Turn off electric wheel chairs for transport
.. Observe condition of child while on bus
.. Keep students from interacting in a non-positive manner
.. Continually monitors condition of students for health emergency
.. Continually monitors students to be sure they are secure in their seat or wheel chair
.. Assists sub driver in identifying possible emergency situations for a child
.. After training-may assist driver in tying down wheel chairs and in lift operation
.. Travel main aisle of bus to monitor behavior of students
.. Continually monitor student behavior and require them to remain seated
.. De-escalate a potentially volatile behavior situation
.. May be required to fill out a Bus Incident Report for submission to the school

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
Essential Functions:
- Identifies eligible riders
- Seats riders
- Interprets bus rules
- Maintains order and discipline
- Assists the driver in evacuation of bus during an emergency
- Assists a sub driver in route and stop locations
- For busses that carry Multiple Handicapped or Orthopedic Handicapped students, the assistant must do the following:

- For busses that carry Severe Behavior (SBH)/Emotionally Disturbed (ED) Students, the assistant must do the following:
.. Travel main aisle of bus to monitor behavior of students
.. Continually monitor student behavior and require them to remain seated
.. De-escalate a potentially volatile behavior situation
.. May be required to fill out a Bus Incident Report for submission to the school
- Promotes good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
- Maintains respect for confidential information
- Promotes good safety practices and procedures
- Performs related work as required
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to cope with stressful situations as related to preschool and special needs children
- Ability to accurately complete bus incident reports and other required documentation
- Ability to promotes good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
- Ability to maintains respect for confidential information
- Ability to promotes good safety practices and procedures
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing situations
Equipment Operated:
- After training--may be required to assist driver with wheelchair tie downs and lifts
- Seat belt latches
- Electric wheelchair on and off mechanism
- Bus safety door
- Orthopedic equipment used while student is entering, exiting, or on bus
- Frequently required to lift students in and out of equipment
- Frequent exposure to body fluids
- Occasionally required to restrain students
- Occasional interaction among unruly children
- Occasional exposure to blood and tissue
- Frequent and regular requirement to lift, stand, walk, talk, hear, see
- Occasionally required to fill out reports
