The Akron Board of Education announces an opening for a School Psychologist, Job Code 062, TS 412 (205 Days), Salary Range TBD. Collective Bargaining Unit – AEA.  This position is a State Teachers Retirement System position.

QUALIFICATIONS - Required: 
  • Ohio Department of Education license in School Psychology.
 
Desired:
  • A commitment to working with students, professionals and community members in a multi-cultural setting;
  • Experience in working with students in an urban setting;
  • Experience in the following:   
    • Public school teaching (elementary and/or secondary);
    • School counseling and guidance;
    • Internship in an urban district;
    • Intervention and assessment of low incident populations;
    • Implementation of Ohio Model Policy and Procedures.
 
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
  • Conducts intensive psycho-educational evaluations of children referred, giving priority to children identified as or suspected of having disabilities;
  • Assists Intervention Assistance Teams to implement Pyramid of Learning Model;
  • Contributes to a multi-factored evaluation, utilizing appropriate diagnostic instruments and techniques as part of a multi-disciplinary team;
  • Confers with teachers, parents and other educational personnel on matters relating to the education and/or mental health of children;
  • Assists staff in implementing or modifying instructional strategies, classroom management procedures, intervention strategies and follow-up activities;
  • Documents data by writing comprehensive reports with recommendations;
  • Contributes to the written report of the evaluation team delineating the results of the psycho-educational evaluation for consideration in the development of an IEP;
  • Counsels individually and in groups with students and/or their parents;
  • Conducts or participates in in-service training programs;
  • Participates directly or as a consultant to personnel conducting screening programs;
  • Reports to and performs any tasks assigned by the Coordinator, Special Education (Child Study) or the Director of Special Education.
