The Akron Board of Education announces an opening for a Technology Support Specialist-Office of School Improvement, Job Code 156, Time Schedule 450 (225 days), Salary TBD. Collective Bargaining Unit – None. This is a School Employees Retirement System position.

Qualifications:

Required:

Four-year degree in a related field or a 2-year degree in a non-related field plus experience with technology or equivalent combination of education and experience;
Valid Ohio driver’s license;
Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills, ability to develop, foster and cultivate relationships;
Sensitivity to a multicultural/multiethnic learning environment, and have a commitment to customer service.

Desired:

A Certifications, Microsoft Certifications, Apple Certifications or other technical certifications;
Train and support administrators and teachers in the use of data analysis to support educational change and reform.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Performs tasks related to Microsoft Excel, Cognos, SSRS, and eSchool.
Willingness to learn business analytics tools such as Tableau, Google Data Studio, and Unified Insights.

Performs technical troubleshooting and follows departmental procedures for diagnosing and resolving problems;
Prepares required forms and documentation regarding all trouble-shooting activities;
Responds promptly to requests for assistance;
Works to ensure that the computer equipment and software is kept current and in good working order and helps teachers to make better use of instructional equipment as a learning tool;
Works closely with the Technology Services Department, Curriculum & Instruction and Audio Visual
Departments and reports to the Department of Office of School Improvement;
Must learn all applicable software to assist building staff;
Attends all training opportunities as assigned by the Office of School Improvement and the Teaching and
Learning departments. Shares information back with building and department staff members in a timely and efficient manner;
Provides regular and ongoing support to assigned buildings, including basic data advice, report development, and technology trainings;
Performs computer equipment set-up, installation, and testing. Installs and tests software and hardware upgrades using Board Approved tools;
Monitors projects and problems, balances assignments and priorities, and performs follow-up. Properly documents current and anticipated projects and completes them in a timely manner;
Completes associated maintenance forms, which may include ticketing systems, moves and inventories, accounts for AV equipment within the OSI department;
The employee may need to move from building to building or department to department throughout the day and the job requires moving of equipment (heavy and light) within or between buildings and to carry this equipment up flights of steps as needed;
Communicates with the district Technology Services Department. Teaching and Learning Department, and building principals to troubleshoot problems or enhance the level of support received at the building level;
Works with building leads to maintain school based data from district approved source;
Carefully supports and monitors progress of state and district data initiatives for building and district level implementations;
Records, prioritizes, and resolves computer hardware, software, and network related problems throughout the school and provides status updates to staff;
Provides technical assistance to students, administrators, faculty, and staff in the operation of computer software and related equipment;
Provides instruction to the faculty and staff regarding network access, software applications, the use of computer, and all instructional equipment;
Maintains accounts, identification numbers, and databases when necessary, including testing rosters,
APS Portal, and home to school communications;
Assigns work to student assistants and provides overall supervision and assistance to the student workers as and when needed;
Maintains and organizes inventory including supplies, computer parts, software licenses, and documentation as well as all AV equipment within the building;
Schedules the use of laptop computers and the other equipment when necessary;
Works with Building Principals and/or test coordinators for scheduling and preparing of devices for online testing and is cognizant of testing windows and rules for each test;
Attend state, and district training opportunities around online testing;
Ensure state and district test security is in place and procedures are followed;
Assists with online testing along with classroom proctors for proper test administration, actively monitors test administration in each classroom;
Supports district technologies and vision for implementation at the building level in a consistent manner;
Efficiently carries out tasks as assigned or needed by Technology Services, Curriculum & Instruction &
Audio Visual Services;
Works closely with building technology coordinator, testing coordinator and AV coordinator to implement staff needs.
