DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The ASCPL is hiring a part-time Security Officer for the Maple Valley Branch to support our Mission Statement to provide resources for learning and leisure, information services, meeting spaces, and programs for all ages that support, improve, and enrich individual, family, and community life.
The Security Officer works approximately 26 hours per week (generally 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Fridays, subject to change based on Library needs) and:
- Patrols Library buildings, grounds, and parking lots.
- Secures buildings at closing and sets alarm systems or assists as needed.
- Is responsible for being the last person to leave the Library premises when closing.
- Monitors electronic or video security system.
- Observes customer behavior and intervenes when problems occur.
- Advises Library customers of behavior guidelines and enforces those guidelines.
- Assists with the evacuation or movement of the employee and public in emergency situations.
- Performs routine recordkeeping activities and completes incident reports, as necessary.
- Accompanies the Library’s employees to parking areas, as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Required: High school diploma or equivalent. CPR/First Aid Certification within one year of hire. Knowledge of facility and employee security principles and practices. Skill in customer service. Ability to assess potential problem situations quickly and discreetly and effectively deescalate them without disruption of Library services to the public. Understanding of the principles of intellectual freedom. Ability to use a computer and job-related software or systems applicable to the essential functions of the job. Ability to perform duties in all weather conditions. Moderate physical effort, including considerable standing and walking. Ability to lift moderate to heavy objects (more than 25 pounds) and carry them short distances (50 feet or less). Ability to pass criminal background and education verification checks.
Preferred: 2 or more years of relevant experience.
