DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The ASCPL is hiring a Shelver to support our Mission Statement to provide resources for learning and leisure, information services, meeting spaces, and programs for all ages that support, improve, and enrich individual, family, and community life. The Shelver performs a variety of duties as related to the shelving of Library materials. Sorts and returns books and other materials to shelves in proper order, or as otherwise directed. Reads shelves for the correct arrangement of materials. Shifts shelves where necessary. Moves Library material carts as needed. Searches shelves for specific material as assigned, including holds and problem status list. Fills and routes holds. Performs simple clerical tasks, such as photocopying and labeling. Checks for missing and/or damaged materials. Maintains neatness in the public service areas. Assists with book drop and delivery, as needed. Assists with closing routines, as needed. Works at the service desk during employee meal or break periods, as needed. Moves furniture and displays, as needed. Assists with packing and unpacking delivery crates and other circulation duties, as needed. Assists with programs and projects, as needed. Complies with Akron-Summit County Public Library’s policies, rules, guidelines, procedures, requirements, standards, and practices applicable to the job, including (but not limited to) work scheduling and attendance, customer service, use of Library property, computer use, personal conduct, supervisor expectations, and confidentiality. Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Ability to arrange materials in alphabetical and numerical order. Skill in customer service. Knowledge of the principles of intellectual freedom as they apply to public libraries. Ability to use a computer and job-related software or systems applicable to the essential functions of the job, which may include, but not be limited to, email/calendar software, internet/intranet browsers, and various systems of software used by Akron-Summit County Public Library.
