Description
The Akron Zoo is looking for a Volunteer Specialist. This part time position will work closely with the zoo’s adult and teen volunteers supporting park interpretation and education. This position will also assist with volunteer support for External Affairs and community based events. The Volunteer Specialist reports directly to the Career Pathways Manager.
This part time position will be 20 hours per week with a variable schedule consisting of days, weekends and evenings based on event support needs.
Essential job functions:
- Support volunteers during events
- Support the adult volunteer “Roamer” Program (interpretation)
- Occasionally support the teen volunteer program
Requirements
The candidate for this position should have a high school diploma with some college preferred in the areas of science, education, or psychology. Previous experience working with volunteers, both adult and teen, is needed.
The Volunteer Specialist must be highly organized, outgoing, collaborative, strategic, independent, fun, creative, self-starter who is able to multi-task within a busy work environment. Must have excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), proven success in cross departmental collaborations and strong relationship building skills.
This is a part-time year-round position (20 hours a week).
