Job Overview
Al-Van Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in South Haven, Michigan. We seek a dynamic and persuasive individual who is ready to help assist the humane society in carrying out its mission "to compassionately serve the companion animals in our community by providing the best shelter, adoptive homes, education and resources available." The Marketing and Development Director will be responsible for marketing and fundraising events and programs. This position reports to the Executive Director. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills and a passion for contributing to our mission. Familiarity with email marketing platforms such as MailChimp will be advantageous.
Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Marketing of all events including Fur Ball, 5K Race, Golf Outing, Bark-B-Que, Meet and Greet Events, and any other event conducted.
- Relationship building with members, donors and volunteers.
- Development of donors and donor tracking.
- Responsible for the development of all public relations, marketing and educational material for the shelter. This includes social media, website, and weekly media emails to market all adoptable animals.
- Marketing with other nonprofits, community and national organizations to advance the shelter's mission.
- Maintains liaison with press and community leaders and organizations.
- Publishes quarterly newsletter.
- Establishes regular media contacts for all shelter public relations and press releases.
- Advocates for animal welfare in the community.
- Monitors donation box program.
- Contributes to producing monthly board report and Annual Report (with Executive Director).
- Collaborate with team members to create strategic plans for fundraising events and initiatives.
- Support estate planning efforts by providing necessary documentation and information to potential donors.
- Participate in meetings with stakeholders to discuss progress, challenges, and opportunities related to development goals.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from a university is preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Experience with email marketing software, particularly MailChimp, is highly desirable.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail in all aspects of work.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also being self-motivated.
