Summary:
Reports to the Head Basketball Coach. Responsible for providing representation of student athletes of Alabama A&M University at the NCAA Division I level in Men’s Basketball.
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for assisting in recruiting, organizing, motivating and counseling student athletes.
- Responsible for the associated with recruiting: Letters of Intent (signing) and Official visits.
- Monitors the students’ class attendance, study hall, grades, commencement ceremonies and travel.
- Serves as a role model for student-athletes.
- Responsible for discipline, personal appearance, conduct, image and general behavior of all student athletes recruited and signed for Men’s Basketball.
- Supervises staff and students in the department, who are assigned to this program. Acts as consultant and schedules team travel, hotel, meals and etc.
- Evaluates athletes on physical condition and advises them on maintaining maximum physical fitness for participation in athletic competition.
- Serves as an expert in students athletes and educates them on issues affecting intercollegiate athletics.
- Responsible for assuring that athletes maintain academic eligibility and records of participation are kept and forwarded to the proper agencies and authorities.
- Responsible for the maintenance and accountability of equipment (i.e. uniforms, field equipment).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):
- A Bachelor’s degree is required but a Master’s degree is preferred.
- High level of experience in the management of intercollegiate basketball.
- Must have demonstrated successful experience in dealing with student-athletes academic related programs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of all aspects of counseling basic skills in intercollegiate sports.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and to present information in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to establish favorable relationships between the University and other colleges and Universities.
- Ability to compose and prepare reports, records and correspondence.
- Must have strong interpersonal communication skills and be able to work well with others.
