Summary:
This is a professional leadership accounting position requiring an advanced skill-set and ability to lead. The position reports to the Assistant Vice President for Finance & Comptroller or designee.
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership to functional areas of General Accounting, Accounts Payable, Travel, and Student Receivables.
- Maintain a proficient understanding of Federal, state, and university policies, procedures, and regulations governing financial operations.
- Understand and stay abreast of financial operations best practices.
- Prepare various internal and external financial reports and surveys.
- Conduct monthly account analyses for reasonableness.
- Prepare quarterly internal financial statements.
- Manage month-end and year-end close-out procedures.
- Prepare year-end annual financial statements.
- Assess processes and make recommendations to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Write and implement procedures.
- Assist with drafting policy recommendations.
- Conduct periodic in-service training for Finance staff and other University Staff.
- Understand and stay abreast of Banner system changes and upgrades to ensure that there is no disruption in the Finance system operations.
- Understand and utilize the Banner Finance module to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness in the operations processing.
- Troubleshoot system problems.
- Serve as the liaison with Information Technology Services (ITS) for problems requiring technical assistance and manage system test plans for upgrades and enhancements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Position Requirements (including years of experience, certifications, licenses, etc.):
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with five years accounting experience or MBA with three years of accounting experience.
- Two (2) years of leadership experience.
- Must be available for periodic evening and week-end work.

- Experience with Ellucian Banner Finance preferred
- Extensive MS Excel skills and Moderate MS Word skills

- Extensive experience with computer based financial accounting and reporting systems
- Moderate understanding of GASB reporting
- Moderate Financial Statement Preparation experience
