Summary:
Applied Geospatial Data Science Laboratory in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences at Alabama A&M University is seeking a research assistant with expertise in geospatial data science to support ongoing research project. The project will use a combination of remotely sensed data and products, geospatial mapping, and modeling tools for understanding urban climate change and impacts. The successful candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of scientists of AAMU and the two collaborating national laboratories: Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and will contribute to develop project outputs and scientific products (peer reviewed publications and conference presentations).
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Acquire, process, and analyze geospatial data using GIS and remote sensing software.
- Integrate remotely sensed data to develop and implement geospatial modeling approaches.
- Mentor and collaborate with graduate and undergraduate students to produce scientific findings and research products.
- Collaborate with the team to developing scientific products that include manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific conferences.
- Assist in developing and implementing GIS and Remote sensing teaching and student training programs.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):
- MS in STEM related field
- Basic understanding of GIS (Able to work with GIS data and software)

- Track record of primary contributions to peer-reviewed publications
