Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Director, Talent Search, the employee provides advisement and advocacy of low-income and first-generation pre-college program participants regarding education, career, and financial aid needs who are in the target junior high and high schools. The employee develops and conducts workshops of program activities contributing to the development and implementation of program goals and objectives. The Advisor assists with providing outreach, tutoring, mentoring, advising, developing individual service plans, along with instructional and support services. The Advisor is also responsible for completing annual progress plans for program participants in the targeted middle and high schools, and preparing program participants to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.
POSTING DATE : JANUARY 27, 2025
SALARY : Appropriate placement on Salary Schedule E3 03 (range : $45,220 - $62,710). This position involves performance duties for a federally funded project and is contingent on continued federal funding. In the event that funds for this position are discontinued or significantly reduced or if federal requirements for funding this project no longer include this position, the College shall have the right to discontinue the position. Neither tenure or non-probationary status may be attained in this position.

The position will be based initially at the Sparks Campus in Eufaula.
More than one position in the same job classification may be filled from the applicants for this position should another vacancy occur during the search process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION : Talent Search Advising. Assists low-income and first-generation students in identifying their values, interests, and abilities, and in clarifying their academic and career goals.
- Assists in the identification and selection of Talent Search participants.
- Prepares and conducts student success workshops in target schools.
- Advises and sets academic, personal, and career goals with Talent Search participants.
- Completes an academic progress plan for each participant.
- Provides Talent Search participants with course selection information.
- Maintains regular personal contact with participants enrolled in the Talent Search project to discuss any personal, academic, financial, career exploration, and other problems they are experiencing.
- Advises and assists Talent Search participants with needed academic support services.
- Refers any counseling problems identified to the Director for review and assistance.
- Remains familiar with postsecondary educational requirements and current career information and trends to properly advise participants on a suitable career path.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION : Talent Search Cultural Enrichment and Community Involvement. Conducts and participates in programs and events to enhance Talent Search participant success.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION : Program Operations. Performs program activities to ensure efficient, high quality services are provided to Talent Search students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION : College Expectations. Dependability, attendance, punctuality, and a commitment to do the job right are essential at all times.
Qualifications
ADVISORY COMMITTEE : The President will appoint an Advisory and Interview Committee to include representatives of the College faculty and staff. This committee will employ appropriate procedures, including the review of application packets, interviews, and demonstration of competency, to determine which applicants are to be recommended to the President for further consideration. From all the applications received, an advisory committee will select the applicants to be interviewed.
