Position Summary
Human Resources Specialist
Salary Schedule Placement : Commensurate with education and experience according to Salary Schedule E.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
In addition to adhering to the general guidelines as specified by the Faculty / Staff Handbook, the Human Resources Coordinator, the Dean of Students, the President, and the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, responsibilities include the following :
- Assist with the recruitment of qualified prospective employees,
- Gather and collect data from various resources for reports; run reports as needed,
- Prepare and submit required forms and reports related to the employment of college personnel,
- Assist search committees in administering the search process,
- Maintain liaison with department heads on personnel related matters,
- Assist in the development, and maintenance of job descriptions for all college employees,
- Work with the HR Coordinator in completing Onboarding processes,
- Conduct background checks,
- Ability to clarify and interpret policies and procedures affecting college employees,
- Maintain all personnel files,
- Complete contracts for instructional and non-instructional employees,
- Ensure employment processes and forms are in compliance with state and federal requirements,
- Maintain sick leave bank records,
- Verify employment information to requesting agencies (with written approval from employee if needed),
- Assist with maintaining audit files,
- Assist with orientation of new employees,
- Write employee and professional service contracts,
- Update personnel section of Faculty / Staff Handbook,
- Participate in professional developments as appropriate,
- Prepare reports and correspondence as requested,
- Update Campus Directory,
- Assist with special projects as needed,
- Prepare annual Letters of Appointment verifying salary and benefits for all staff
- Work well with others and show respect to all college constituents,
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Human Resources Coordinator, Executive Assistant to the President and the President.

Sick Leave
All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is the equivalent of 8 hours of sick leave per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. Tuition Assistance
This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy.
