Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Radiologic Technology Instructor / Clinical Coordinator participates in the implementation and evaluation of the clinical education program and plans and teaches didactic classroom instruction and clinical experiences. The Radiologic Technology Instructor / Clinical Coordinator acts as liaison between the Radiologic Technology program and affiliated clinic sites to ensure appropriate policy adherence and placement of clinical interns.

The Radiologic Technology Instructor / Clinical Coordinator will adhere to the guidelines as specified by the Lawson State Community College Policy and Procedures Manual, the President of the college, the Vice President of Instruction, and the Radiologic Technology Accreditation Agencies.

Salary Schedule Placement : Appropriate placement on Salary ScheduleD1 IB-IV ($42,108- $94,363) based on education and experience. Summer appointments are based on enrollment- Salary Schedule D1 ($13,001 - $29,184) based on education and experience. Annual Potential Salary including Summer Appointment ($55,109- $123,547)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach no more than 35 contact hours per week in class and lab.
  • Instructor must be available to teach in day, night, weekend classes, and training opportunities if necessary.
  • Regular and consistent attendance at work and record / maintain student attendance records.
  • Ability to respond to and work with a diverse population.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with clinical education sites.
  • Ensures proper record-maintenance and documentation of laboratory and clinical activities.
  • Secure new clinical sites with clinical affiliate agreements.
  • Ensures appropriate clinical rotations and evaluates clinical education effectiveness through a schedule of regular contact with the clinical education sites.
  • Facilitates and ensures appropriate direct and indirect supervision and instruction of the students in the laboratory and clinical setting.
  • Ensures clinical staff are apprised of the clinical competency evaluation process.
  • Participates in didactic / clinical instruction, student evaluation, and advising.
  • Supports the Program Director to help assure effective program operation
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements
  • Participates in planning curriculum, teaching schedule, and course outline.
  • Coordinates and maintains student clinical records while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Maintains current knowledge of the discipline and educational methodologies through continuing professional development.
  • Serve on divisional, institutional, and state-wide committees as appointed.
  • Cooperates with the program director in periodic review and revision of clinical and didactic course materials
  • Maintains current knowledge of program policies, procedures, and student progress.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
  • Participates on committees and engages in college-wide activities to promote the missions of the institution.
  • Agrees to participate in required college events, such as graduation, honors day programs, and other assigned events.
  • Maintains a neat, appropriate and professional appearance at all times.
  • Adheres to all school and / or department policies and responds to all administrative requests in a timely professional manner.
  • Assists every student in the development of his / her academic abilities to his / her greatest capacity.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a regionally accredited institution
  • Documents two years' clinical experience in radiology
  • Documents one year's experience as an instructor in a JRCERT-accredited program
  • Proficient in curriculum development, supervision, instruction, evaluation, and academic advising
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Teaching experience in college setting
  • Credentialed in additional advanced imaging modalities
  • REQUIRED LICENSE, CERTIFICATION, OR SPECIAL CREDENTIALS :

  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification and registration in radiography.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Certification (or equivalent).
  • OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS :

  • Exceptional verbal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated computer literacy and well versed in instructional technology platforms
  • ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS :

    1. Be able to conduct board instruction and demonstration of relevant concepts (up to 50 minutes at a time)

    2. Be able to circulate the room during instruction and / or testing conditions

    3. Be computer literate, be well versed in instructional technology and use of medical equipment

    4. Be able to move technological carts and equipment (at least 20 to 25 pounds)

    The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions.     This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy.
