TITLE : Teacher Instructional Assistant / Paraprofessional
QUALIFICATIONS :
High school graduate
If applicable, "highly qualified"
Good physical and emotional health.
Experience with children preferred
Ability to relate positively to children and adults
Valid Alabama driver's license
Positive background check
REPORTS TO : Central Office Program Director or Supervisor, School Principal
JOB GOA L : Assist school personnel in providing an appropriate education / training program for students
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :
Comprehend and carry out instructions as a follow-up to reinforce skills which teachers are attempting to teach
Work with individuals and groups of students as instructed
Perform clerical tasks such as filing, typing, checking out library equipment and materials (if applicable)
Inventory supplies, materials and equipment, and record needs and condition of existing items
Assist in preparation of instructional materials, games, etc., and other activities as directed by specified school personnel
Assist in providing a nurturing environment for assigned students
Assist in supervising students at all times
Assist in implementing daily learning activities in accordance with program goals and curriculum
Assist the lead teacher as directed
Interact positively with parents and refers questions and concerns to Program Lead Teacher
Assist children in maintaining appropriate standards of behavior using non-punitive methods and positive management strategies
Cooperates with other program staff to create and maintain harmonious and efficient environment
Participate in staff meetings, pre-service and in-service training programs as required
Follow established policies and procedures to safeguard the health and safety of assigned students
Relieve assigned teacher of non-teaching responsibilities
Maintain confidentiality regarding educational information and records
Be professional and courteous at all times
Physically assist students with disabilities (when working with special needs students and applicable)
Assist with grooming needs of students such as changing diapers, bathing, tooth brushing, hair care, nail care, and other personal needs (such as feeding) when directed by the supervising teacher (when working with special needs students and applicable)
Assist therapists and perform follow-through therapy as prescribed by physical / occupational / speech therapists (when working with special needs students and applicable)
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned
TERMS OF EMPLOYMEN T :
Regular school term of 182 days or for the remainder of the school year if hired after the first day of school. Salary range as determined by degree and number of years' experience.
EVALUATION : Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board regarding the evaluation of support personnel.
