JOB DESCRIPTION
THOMASVILLE CITY BOARD OF EDUCATION
LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE (LPN)
RESPONSIBLE TO : Principal, Assistant Principal, and Special Education Director
QUALIFICATIONS :
Possess a current license from the Alabama Board of Nursing designating Licensed Practical Nurse.
Three years experience in nursing or related health field. School experience preferred.
Valid Alabama driver's license.
Provide own or have access to appropriate transportation to meet job requirements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Complete vision and hearing screening for all referrals of Title I, special education, and kindergarten students.
Re-evaluate vision and hearing of special education students each three years.
Contact community agencies for assistance with specialized medical problems.
Assist principals in obtaining specialized medical services for students who need but cannot obtain glasses, hearing aides, etc.
Serves as a resource person and assists in providing classroom instruction relative to health education.
Assume other reasonable and equitable job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Skill in the use of test and measurements for assessing blood glucose and vision and hearing function.
Good knowledge of assessment skills and indications for appropriate intervention.
Good knowledge of medical and pediatric information.
Ability to implement appropriate referrals to community agencies as necessary.
Ability to maintain written records.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school faculties, students, and parents.
Excellent human relationship skills and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Physical mobility and dexterity and visual capacity to serve students with disabilities.
JOB GOAL :
To provide nursing and health care for all students.
EVALUATION :
Job performance for non-probationary personnel will be evaluated by the immediate supervisor based on Board policy. Probationary personnel will be evaluated annually.
APPEALS :
