ABOUT THE ROLE
The E.H. Gentry Facility is one of the most distinct and comprehensive education and rehabilitation programs in the United States. You will be part of a dynamic team committed to a championship philosophy that underscores the genuine belief in the potential of all individuals. As a BEP Work Experience Technician II you will be responsible for providing direct services to the BEP Instructor and students in specialized settings including a snack bar, vending areas and classroom. The position requires professionalism, confidentiality, compassion as well as sound judgement to help provide the continued excellence of the program as one of the top ranked in the country. The ideal candidate for this position will have a dedication and passion for working with blind adults to ensure all students are capable of managing a successful business.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
- Two years of experience in an educational, rehabilitation, or related field.
- Must have computer knowledge and skills to operate Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), Google G-Suite (Calendar, Sheets, Docs, Drive), and Quicken recording software.
- Must be self-motivated and able to handle multiple tasks.
- Must possess excellent organizational skills for processing of documents and be detail oriented.
- Must possess excellent communications skills.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, including early morning, late afternoons, and may include some weekends or overnight trips.
- Valid Alabama Driver License and able to be insured by AIDB insurance carrier.
- Able to stoop, bend, and lift fifty (50) pounds (without assistance); and lift more than fifty pounds (50) with assistance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- ServSafe certification.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
- Minimum of one (1) year or more experience working with individuals who are blind or low-vision.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Must obtain ServSafe certification within the first twelve (12) months of hire.
- Must obtain a braille proficiency level of 80 percent (80%) or better on AIDB’s braille evaluation system within the first twenty-four (24) months of hire.
- Must obtain a sign language proficiency level of SURVIVAL PLUS according to the AIDB evaluation system within the first twenty-four (24) months of hire.
- Must complete AIDB training on Deafness, Blindness, Visual Impairments, DeafBlindness and Multiple Disabilities within twelve (12) months of hire.
- Transport students off-campus to stock vending machines, participate in field trips, attend product shows, purchase supplies, make bank deposits and (OJT) on-the-job training, etc.
- Assist instructor in teaching troubleshooting techniques, minor vending machine repair, and supervising students during food preparation and cooking.
- Inventory and stock vending machines in the absence of students and/or instructor.
- Attend area BEP meetings, state Elected Committee of Blind Vendor’s Meetings and yearly BEP training conference, plus assist with providing updates about the Gentry BEP program.
- Complete all necessary paperwork for travel, mileage reimbursement, purchase order requests, work orders, etc.
- Maintain the Cantaloupe and Seed Cashless Plus Systems (credit card readers and inventory), train and monitor students on the use of the cash register, and assist the instructor in educating students on the operation of these systems.
- Complete monthly reconciliation report for the Gentry Cafe’ and BEP vending sales.
- Explain the process of ordering products to the students, guide them to proper decision-making skills concerning orders, and assist with student training of required BEP paperwork.
- Assist instructor with determining subjective student grades (ex: vending, cooking, cleaning, ordering, customer service, etc.) and provide input at student program reviews and staffings.
- Assist the instructor in completing physical assessment for prospective BEP students and administer the physical assessment in the absence of the instructor.
- Assist the instructor in providing materials in an accessible format to students and staff.
- Other duties as assigned .
- Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB
SALARY: $22.03- $26.52 per hour Scale C4 Rank 43
230 Days
Direct deposit is required; bi-monthly payroll
This is a non-exempt position and is subject to overtime and/or compensatory time provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act
